Created as part of an ongoing series focusing on using ideas, images, and materials of the natural world and the human form, inspired by taxidermy and taxonomy. I am interested in the gaze of the modern world on things past, and this particular piece explores memory, and how it is constantly impressing itself on the present. The concept is that of a book laid open for the reader, revealing vintage lace, hand-sewn and formed in the shape of an egg; a symbol of beginnings, birth, vulnerability, and renewal. The eggs are laid in a nest of both locally sourced feathers and several feathers cut from monoprints. The letterpressed text has been hand-sewn into ribbon format.
