Me and my beloved heart horse, Spruce. Photo by Clara van den Berg.

I was born and raised in the Alberta landscape, spending most of my time outdoors, often on horseback.

I love the prairie sky, the sound of snow melting in the spring, and buildings that have been around long enough to tell stories. I enjoy traveling, but my first choice is always a Sunday afternoon spent with the horses, followed by a home-cooked meal with all three of my kids at home (a rare occurrence, these days!)

Creating art has long been a passion of mine, and I have spent almost two decades developing my practice in writing, photography and printmaking. My book of poetry titled ‘A Road Map for Finding Wild Horses’ was released this year with Turnstone Press. For several years I worked as editor of a small press, making hand-bound editions and letterpress artist books (visit Red Nettle Press here.). In addition to various artist residencies, I studied photography as part of the Fine Arts program at Grant MacEwan University, and over the years my artwork has been exhibited in a variety of cities, including Edmonton, Banff, London, New York, and Baghdad. I love both portrait and landscape photography, but also enjoy experimenting, and spend my spare time exploring ways to combine the artistry of printmaking with my love of photography.

The Prairie Darkroom is my space to share some of what I've created, and I hope you enjoy. xo
