Following the Road Map

A Road Map for Finding Wild Horses has officially made its way into the world! The last several weeks have been full; of poetry, of sharing, of soaking it all in. I am also full of gratitude for the opportunities to be included in several events, one being the Edmonton Poetry Festival, a week-long celebration of poetry in all its forms, which was founded in 2006 by then-Poet Laureate, Alice Major.

Alice Major hosted the opening evening of the 2024 Edmonton Poetry Festival, and I launched a A Road Map for Finding Wild Horses.! Photo by Alexis Marie Chute.

The poetry festival has grown and changed since its inception, but at the heart of it all is the wonderful way in which the city comes together to enjoy the diversity of voices that share multiple stages. Years ago I volunteered and helped organize events with the festival, including an exhibit of visual poetry, ‘See This/Hear Me,’ which I curated with Marita Dachsel. Part of the exhibit included a moving performance by artist Jolanta Lapiak.

Collaborations like this are something I’ve been missing lately, and so this September I will be organizing a small retreat inspired by the horses…stay tuned! Sooner on the horizon, though, is an evening at Audreys Books on May 30th, an afternoon of book signings at Cafe Books in Canmore on June 8th, and upcoming readings in BC.
